Magnet Schultz double latching solenoid locks without power
Difficulties of locking valuable items where space is at a premium and the object must remain locked without power can now be quickly and easily resolved following the launch of a new double latching solenoid by Magnet Schultz Ltd, market leader in the manufacturer of specialist solenoid actuators and mechanisms. Called the MGPU 019, the solenoid is a versatile device combining lightweight, compact design with excellent functionality.
Ideal for a wide range of applications including PC computer cases, security cases, filing cabinets, cash boxes and cubicles, the MGPU 019 is also suitable for a variety of machinery applications such as vending and gaming machines where it is necessary to lock a hopper diverter or a security flap to prevent access to a reward chute. The double latching solenoid can also be used as a detent within a mechanism or where a strike or trigger motion is required.
Extremely robust, the MGPU 019 will withstand a side load of over 22kg in the locked position making it perfect for deadlock applications whilst the solenoid’s bearing system ensures longevity.
The MGPU 019 comprises a permanent magnet surrounded by two coils with a locking pin projecting from each end of the armature. The solenoid operates by momentarily energising one coil to engage the pin and then energising the second coil to reverse the process. Power consumption is extremely low as the permanent magnet provides the ‘latching’ effect, which holds the armature at either end of the stroke.
Installation and connection has been simplified through the MGPU 019’s standard Molex electrical socket being moulded into the frame of the solenoid, which has also been designed to provide choice of mounting arrangements. The plug locks in place thereby speeding assembly time and preventing unintentional disconnection.
Available in any voltage the MGPU019 is supplied by Magnet Schultz in 6, 12, and 24v DC as standard. The company is able to advise on any applications and can also supply a complete assembly, incorporating the MGPU 019.
